For those who might be interested in conducting pro bono psychological evaluations for people seeking political asylum in this country, Healthright International is offering a training session. The description follows:
We are pleased to announce that the HRC will be holding a training for prospective volunteers on Saturday, April 14th, from 8:30AM to 2PM, at the law office of Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy, LLP, at 7 Hanover Square, New York, NY. Physicians and mental health professionals holding clinical licenses are eligible to apply.
The training will provide clinicians with an understanding of the asylum process in the United States, prepare them to evaluate and document the effects of torture on survivors, offer guidance on writing effective affidavits, and train clinicians to conduct needs-assessments and refer clients to culturally appropriate services in their communities.
The training is free of charge and we offer CME credits and CE credits in psychology upon successful completion.
Please feel free to distribute the attached training flyer and application form to any friends or colleagues who might be interested in volunteering with the HRC, and encourage them to apply.
Thank you for supporting our volunteer recruitment and training efforts.
We certainly appreciate the time and expertise you donate to the HRC and the survivors we serve.
