The New School for Social Research (NSSR) invites you to a reading and discussion of Dr. Jeremy Safran’s new book, Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Therapies (American Psychological Association Publications, 2012). Following the presentation, Dr. Safran will answer questions from the audience and discuss his book in a conversation moderated by NSSR Dean Michael Schober.

“This is not a good book. It is a great book. There has never been such a sophisticated, yet readable introduction to the theory and practice of psychoanalytic therapy. It is a masterpiece of integration between new and old, clinical and conceptual; and both research and technique. Safran brings a staggering breadth of knowledge, creativity and command of language to the best text on psychoanalytic therapy to date.”
– Peter Fonagy, PhD FBA
Freud Memorial Professor of Psychoanalysis at the University College London Chief Executive, Anna Freud Centre

Dr. Safran is a professor of psychology at The New School for Social Research and a faculty member at the New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. He is also the former director of clinical training at The New School for Social Research and a past president of the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. Dr. Safran has published several books including Emotion in Psychotherapy; Interpersonal Process in Cognitive Therapy; Negotiating the Therapeutic Alliance: A Relational Treatment Guide; and Psychoanalysis and Buddhism: An Unfolding Dialogue.
